Back in the saddle with 5 weeks to go!

Well after a nearly 6 week intensely bad sinus/chest infection and antibiotics galore.  I am back in the saddle.  This week saw me get back out there and train.  Unfortunately the 6 weeks of no exercise has done quite a lot of damage :(  Before I became ill, I was just off 5k runs during training.  This week I have struggled doing 2k.  But as ever, I guess it's just more of a challenge!  So out goes the penchant for reds and rum...and in comes the penchant for apples and bananas.  Anna has carried on and is ready for a 10k run this week.  So I shall carry on by her side...on my bicycle!  My plan for the next 5 weeks is to run 3 days a week and cycle 3 days a week.  Hopefully this will get me up to a hard but easily accomplished 10k by June 12!

um, yes. I've been a naughty girl.  I haven't run since 01/03/2010...and i didn't update the blog on that!  Last monday I ran with anna just over 4k...and then...well, i did no exercise.  Both of us were quite busy this week and thus didn't give ourselves the kick up the bum we needed.  HOWEVER, (yes, a big however) tonight we did just over 5k...5.47k to be exact.  I lost anna around the 3k mark, she sped on while i lumbered on! ;)  Took around 50 minutes for me.  I'm getting quite a lot of pain in my shins and achilles.  I think i'm goign to try and work in some yoga or pilates to increase the flexibility of my legs.  The pain is unbearable during and after running.  It's a real battle to keep running through it.

Went for morning run with Anna, i say run loosely as we only jogged 2k... Both of us were tired this morning... Me definitely more so than her.  Not sure if i'm a morning runner.  It was total pain for my calves and achilles.  We did the trail for half the way so it was mud, grass, gravel and hills.  Definitely felt harder.  In total we did a distance of 4.57k.  Am pleased we're going farther each train.  Just really need to work on my endurance!!

Really tired today as it's been a fairly busy day.  Haven't really had a moments rest until now.  Ran 4k today, albeit a bit slower than the last run. Was feeling a bit ugh.  Think I ate too close to the run, or ate too much...or probably a bit of both! ;)  I still gave it 2 hours before, but I think maybe i need to eat no later than 2 and 1/2 hours before a run.  Anna is great to run with as she really pushes me.  I'm competitive so it really gets to me when i see her running so far ahead of me.  With that motivation and her general happy go lucky, you can do it attitude I'm doing fairly well on the increasing of distance :)  Still working on my snail's pace, but at least I'm a slightly quicker snail!  I'm enjoying the running a bit more. (well at least i enjoy the fact that i've done it after ;) )  Didn't bother to listen to music either today, even though i brought it.  I concentrated again on my breathing, which really helps I think.  I only had one stitch and easily ran through it by changing my breathing pattern.  The vomity feeling in the end...well i guess that'll go the more i get fit..haha.

Same run as yesterday, but today Anna ran with me.  (well she ran about 50-100 feet ahead of me..haha.)  Which is good as it keeps me battling through.  I increased my speed tonight to keep up with Anna and we averaged a 10min mile.  I'm very pleased.  So next run we're going to increase the distance.  It's going to be hard work for me.  I'm mentally battling through it while I run.  I constantly have to bargain with myself...just to the next roundabout then maybe you can walk...and then get to the roundabout and it's...just to the next one...and i do that until i reach the end.  So far I usually have music blaring.  But tonight for some reason I didn't turn it on, i focussed on my breathing and listening to my feet hit the ground...It helped with the stitch in my side oddly enough.  So I may start running with no music.  Kind of weird for me, but we'll see how it goes. :)

Completely lost count of what day i'm on and to tired to work it out.  Haven't run since monday...#fail.  This morning I ran the same run as monday with Anna.  I was pleased as I ran it at the same speed alone as the speed i ran with Anna...and I ran up the last hill, which i walked up with Anna as a cool down.  Going to be very sore tomorrow.  Massive roast lamb lunch with family and then er, steak for was a red meat fest.. ha.  Yes, I definitely need to work on the healthy eating...and maybe less red wine.

Day 9 - 15/02/2010

I've been a bit naughty on training since last thurs.  But tonight i went for run with Anna. The cheeky minx wasn't even out of breath by the end of it.  Me, well I felt like dying.  But i ran the whole way, no stopping to walk etc.  We did 3.17K and I increased my speed from 14min mile to 12.5min mile.  So I'm well pleased...even though I'm still as slow as a snail..haha

Day 5 & 6

I've been a bit of a fail so far in my training.

Yesterday was a fail on the training front, but a win on the tooth fixing! not all that bad!

Today I did a quick mile run on hills (even that made the ol' heart want to explode and tonight will be going to the gym for cross training. no video blog as no time! sorry!

Day 3 & Day 4

no training. in pain. back molar cracked in half (all the way down), masochist dentist pulled out half of molar with tweezers, then added a temp filling, which promptly fell out the next day when i got tired of the liquid diet. Still in pain. dentist can't fit me in for 2 weeks... Currently searching for new masochist dentist who can perhaps fix tooth quicker. tomorrow i load up on pain killers and train (unless i can find a dentist to fix tooth tomorrow.)

Almost forgot (due to pain that's making me unable to think straight)

Anna will be joining me on the 10k! :)

Day 2 - fails

and er, i failed miserably. Today i had lots of editing to do so i switched my rest day from monday to today (sunday..i haven't gone to bed yet! so it's still sunday in my book! :) ) I also ate a massive roast sunday lunch...erm, think i'm going to have to work on this whole healthy training thing...

First day of training.

So today I began my first day of training.  It feels all momentous, like the first day of school.  I always dreaded the first day of school.
I took it fairly easy today and completed a 3.35km distance (2.08miles).  I alternated a walk/run pattern as suggested by most training plans.  Even that had my lungs wanting to explode!  It was also so cold today that there were no worries about sweating. ha!  
My friend Anna may join in on the race with me again, so I would like to get my running up so that I can maybe keep up with her...She's a speed demon compared to my pace.  My pace = slower than most walk ;)
It's embarrasing but i'll tell you, i'm averaging like a 14 minute mile.  My excuse is no exercise for a year and a half, little legs..and it was hilly!  er, yeah.  So besides distance, my new goal is speed.  I definitely need to work on my speed!
My training log on mapmyrun is basically telling me i'm too fat and too slow.  I currently have a big dislike for it and we're not talking.
